In today’s video, I get to have some one-on-one time with Talladega’s 2024 Head Coach Aja Sims! The former Southeastern Conference (SEC) champion has coached at various levels, including collegiate, club, and high school. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa), where she excelled in academics as well as sports. She is a four-time Scholastic All American (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) and a three-time All-American (2014, 2016, 2017).

In today’s video, I get to have some one-on-one time with Talladega Assistant Coach Wendy Carey!

Carey spent the 2022-2023 season at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where the Titans won their second consecutive National Collegiate Gymnastics Association title. With Coach Lauren Karnitz, Coach Carey coached five All-Americans, eight All-Conference, and five Academic All-District honorees from the College Sports Communicators. Carey spent two seasons at Centenary College, serving as their assistant coach from 2020-2022. In 2021-2022, the Centenary team claimed two All-America honors with the USAG in Kendall Sanders (AA) and Taylor Wilson (UB). The duo claimed WCGA honors as well during the season. Wilson was an All-Conference honoree with the MIC. Sanders earned CoSIDA Academic All-America and was the conference selection for the NCAA Woman of the Year. In 2020-2021, Centenary claimed five All-America honorees from four individuals at the USAG Nationals, including national champion Taylor Wilson (UB). At conference, Coach Carey saw three people earn four All-Conference honors in the MIC and three claim five All-America with WCGA.

Carey is an active judging member of the nationally recognized NAWGJ organization (National Association for Women’s Gymnastics Judges). Carey graduated from Texas Tech University in 2019 and received a master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University in 2021, with degrees in Kinesiology. Carey was a gymnast for the club team at Texas Tech University from 2016-19. While at Texas Tech, Carey gained leadership experience, serving as the team president and the department’s athletic strength and conditioning intern during her senior year.

One-on-One with Nickie Guerrero – Former Gymnast at Alabama

In today’s video, I get to have some one-on-one time with Guest Coach at Talladega’s 2024 Gymnastics Camp, Nickie Guerrero!

Nickie Guerrero graduated magna cum laude in May 2018 with a dual bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting. During her time in undergrad, Guerrero earned 4-year Scholastic All-American honors and was a 3-time Regular Season All-American. She was voted captain by her teammates in 2017 and 2018. Her senior year, she also received the Lewis Each Courage Award – the most prestigious award presented by the Alabama Gymnastics program. Her public service includes working with Read-Bama-Read, Special Olympics Unified Sports and the Rise Children Center. As an MBA student, she intends to use her education in financial advising to help others achieve their dreams and goals.

Some information about Jaiden: Major: Biology Prior to Talladega College: Bryant competed at Carolina Elite Gymnastics Academy in Morehead, N.C. During her Level 10 career, Bryant earned the following accolades:

4x National Qualifier
2021 National Floor Champion
2023 State All Around Champion
2023 2nd Place National Floor Champion
2023 3nd Place All Around Champion
High School Honor Roll

Future Goals: Bryant is attending Talladega College with the academic aspirations of becoming a physical therapist. Why Did You Choose Talladega College: “I chose Talladega College because it had everything I was looking for in a future home” stated Bryant. “The academics were amazing and matched my interests along with the staff caring as much about my future as I did. The gymnastics team immediately felt like something I wanted to be a part of! My teammates were so welcoming and the coaching staff cared so much for me, I knew at that moment it was somewhere I could call home.”

In her freshman year she acquired the title of 2024 Vault Champion and First Team 4x All American. In this interview, we learn about how Kyrstin got into gymnastics and she offers up advice for all gymnasts that are coming up!
